Some of my favourite ads

Hello. I hoped you had a good Christmas.

I am happy becasue I have now finished Grade 5 and next year I will be starting Middle School at a new boy's school. I can't wait!

I loved Grade 5 and I loved learning about so many things. One of the things I enjoyed learning about was advertising.

These are some of my favourite ads because they are funny or have an important message that is told in an interesting way.

Lemony Snicket A Series Of Unfortunate Events book review

Hello! Welcome to my blog! Today I will be reviewing Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events

A Series of Unfortunate Events is about the three “extremely unlucky” Baudelaire children, Klaus, Violet and Sunny. Their parents die in a tragic house fire and they have to live with the evil Count Olaf. They encounter a series of unfortunate events as they try to beat Count Olaf at his own game.

The three Baudelaire children lived with their parents in an enormous mansion at the heart of a dirty and busy city. Their sad news is told to them while they are at Briny Beach. Count Olaf lives in briny beach next to Justice Strauss.

Klaus, Violet and Sunny Baudelaire and Count Olaf are the main characters. Violet is the eldest and she likes to skip stones on the beach and build inventions. Klaus is the middle child and he LOVES to read. Sunny is the youngest and she likes to bite things like tables, hands and toes and many more things.

The other main character is Count Olaf and he is evil. He tries to steal the children’s inheritance by marrying Violet.
Justice Strauss is a judge in the Briny Beach Area. She tries to help the children.Mr Poe, was friends with the children’s  parents and he is in charge of looking after the will. Count Olaf enjoys the theatre and he has a theatre group. Nine actors are in the group.

The biggest problem in the book is when the house of the children gets burnt down and their parents die so they have to move in with the evil Count Olaf. He makes their life terrible by forcing them to cut wood in the back yard, do all of the cooking and cleaning and the most terrible thing is when he ties Sunny up in a basket and hangs her from the top of a tall tower.

The most important events in the book are when Count Olaf tries to marry Violet and then Justice Strauss saves Violet. Justice Strauss tries to adopt the children but she cannot as she is not a relative, which is one the rules in the will.

The book does not end on a happy note because Count Olaf says, ”I’ll get my hands on your fortune if the last thing I’ll do...” to Violet and then Count Olaf escapes and nobody knows where he goes.

I liked some parts of the book but some parts were also a bit annoying. In chapter eight Lemony Snickett wrote sentences twice, for example, “He kept reading the same things over and over again. He kept reading the same things over and over again.” This was a bit confusing to understand. Another reason the book was a bit annoying is because I felt really sorry for the three orphans. It was very sad that they were forced to live with Count Olaf and that all of their memories get burnt down in the fire.

One thing I liked about the book is the character Sunny because she was the funniest. One funny part in the book is when she bites the table and doesn’t let go. Another part is when they are chopping wood and Sunny bites and again she doesn’t let go. She was a very funny character even though she says very little.

Did you know this movie was made into a movie?

I loved the movie!

I give this book 3 stars out of 5.

Thanks for reading.

Have a great day

A Silly Post

This weekend  our family has been pretty silly.

We went to the EKKA and we ate HEAPS of junk food .

We played the 'clown game'.

We even saw a man wearing a silly balloon hat.

And when we came home I read some silly books.

Even  my mum has been in a silly mood. Look at the book she's reading - she is so silly
This is the photo that I'll be entering in the Kid's Click competition for the subject silly.

Thanks for having me, Simoney!

To finish this blog post I want to share a really silly clip called Twisted Whiskers.

Thanks for visiting me today and reading my silly post!

Have a great day,

Karate Kid review and a great song!

Hello everyone. Thanks for coming to read my blog!

Today I just want to tell you about my school holidays and show you some pictures that I took.

This is a photo I took at 6:30AM at Mooloolaba. I will be entering it in the kids click competition that Simoney organizes. Thanks Simoney!

I took this photo in Brisbane City at the Art gallery.

A couple of days ago mum took us to see The Karate Kid so I'm going to be reviewing it now.

Karate Kid is a movie for everyone who likes adventure and funny movies. Karate Kid is a bit sad to start off with and then it gets better because the main character, Dre, who is played by Jaden Smith, learns a lesson to respect his elders. My favourite scene from the movie is when he is training on  the Great Wall of China with his coach, Mr Han, who is played by Jackie Chan.

Here is the trailer for the movie.

I loved this movie because it has action, comedy and it taught me a lesson about respecting others and trying my hardest at everything I do.

Now, here's a great song that is played at the end of the movie by Justin Bieber.

Thanks for reading and  have a great day!

My New Guitar

Hello everyone.

We are back from our week at the beach. We had a great time and we went on lots of walks. I took lots of photos of the beach and of the trees. My favourite picture is of this green pandanus tree.

Green Pandanus-taken by Big Al (10)

When we came back we went shopping in the city and I bought this with my pocket money!

Paper Jamz are made buy WowWee.  They let you rock along with your favourite bands and they are for people who love guitars. Be warned, though, it might drive sisters and parents insane. Wow Wee made them so that amateur guitar players can learn while they're playing along with their favourite bands. Each guitar comes programmed with 3 songs. The songs on mine are Two Princes, The End of the World as we Know It  and What I Like About You.

I love my new Paper Jam guitar because I can rock out to all my favourite songs. I'm going to save up all my pocket money to buy an amplifier and drums as soon as I can.

Here is a film clip for the song Two Princes!

Today I am joining with my Mum's Sunday Song Linky party

and I am submitting my green picture to Simoney's Kids Click competition.

Have a geat day

A review of Shrek 4.

Hello everyone!

Right now we are on school holidays and my mum took my sister and me to see Shrek 4. I loved it so much I have decided to review it!

When we meet Shrek in this movie he seems a bit sad with his life. He is sad because people don't think he is a scary ogre any more and he keeps living the same day over and over again. One day he meets Rumpelstiltskin, who as we all know, is very nasty, and he signs a contract which lets Shrek be a mean ogre for a day in return for a day from Shrek's childhood. Shrek later works out that the day Rumpelstiltskin takes was the day before Shrek was born. This means that Shrek was never born and Fiona never knew him! Shrek needs to do something to fix this problem and he only has one day to do it!

I loved this movie because it is funny and there are heaps of funny characters. One of the fumiest characters is a kid named Butter Pants (his father is voiced by Ryan Seacrest) and he made everybody laugh with his catch phrase Do the roar!

I give this movie 10 out of 10.

Tomorrow we are going to be going to the North Pine Dam for a picnic; I will tell you about it next time.

Thanks for visiting me today.

Have a great day

Club Penguin hints and a great game!

I hope everyone is having a great day.

If you have a Club Penguin account you would know that there is an Adventure Party going on and you have to find things like paper hats. If you are having trouble here are a few handy clues that might help you.

Clue one: the first hat is in the forest near the big boulder.

Clue two: the second one is in the Beach near the sign.

Clue three: the third hat is in the bushes at the snow forts near the stadium.

Clue four: Go to the hidden lake and on top of the mermaid cove sign is the fourth hat.

Clue five: go to the plaza and in the Blue Puffle's hat is the fifth hat.

Clue six: go to The Town and in the Tiki's hat is the sixth hat

Clue seven: go to the Iceberg and look in the palm trees and you will find the second last hat.

The last clue: go to the ski village and on top of the pirate puffle sign is the last hat!

When you finish finding the paper hats it will say Build the map. That map will help you try to find the hidden treasure.

When you have finished the puzzle you will get a map. It is kind of hard to find where it is so just look at the cove. When you get to the cove you will see an X marking the spot. When you go there you use your jackhammer which you can buy in this month's clothing catalog.

To work the jack hammer press E and D at the same time and you will get the prize.

Now that you have finished the puzzle you will get the bandanna!

Now that you are finished all of that, click here and you will find a great to play!

Have great day and thanks for visiting.

Ideas on taking photos.

Hello! Thanks for coming to visit me today.

I have had a great day today. We bought a new rug for my study and I was just in the backyard playing football with my dad while Mum was taking some photos for her blog.

I also took some photos of myself for Simoney's next Kid's Click Competition.

Last week's competition was all about yucky things and Simoney thought my picture was outstanding! Thank you for saying that, Simoney-you made my day! Simoney has now added and extra-special prize to the competition. If she thinks your picture is outstanding you get to write a little post with your photo tips for KidsClick!

So here are my 5 tips on taking good photos.

Idea 1: don't be afraid to get messy and you should even lie down on the ground to get a good shot. Here is a picture of the grass that I took today while lying on the ground.

Idea 2: always get in nice and close. Here is a photo of a spider and I didn't use the zoom. I just got in real close with the camera.

Idea 3: if you can, don't use the flash because it makes the picture look a bit funny and not very natural. Heres a picture of a flower taken with a flash.

Here is a picture of the same flower without the flash-I like this one better.

Idea 4: Hold the camera still as a statue.

Idea 5: Have fun !  I had lots of fun taking pictures of myself for this week's competition.

Here is my entry called.....

Thank you for hosting this great competition Simoney and thank you for letting me share some of my ideas about taking pictures.

Before I go I just wanted to show you a funny ad I found for Sony TVs. It features Justin Timberlake and Peyton Manning and some other celebrities!

Wasn't that funny!

Thanks for visiting me today and don't forget to visit Simoney to link up your pictures all about YOU!

Have a great day,
Big Al :)

"Zac Power" book review and a Great Song.

Hello! Welcome to my blog. I have finished all my homework so it's blog time! I love blogging after a busy day at school.

Today I'm doing a book review on Zac Power written by H.I. Larry.

I like the Zac Power books because they are about a super spy named Zac who is only 12 years old. Zac and his brother Leon and their parents who all work for a spy agency called the Government Investigation Bureau or G.I.B for short.

I have just finished reading Shockwave, Frozen Fear and Blockbuster my favorite one is Shockwave because it has more excitement than the others. This book has Zac in the desert because GIB has received a ransom note from Dr Drastic that they pay $500 billion or a purple diamond LaserBlaster will be used to destroy all mobile networks around the world!

One thing I like about this book is all the gadgets Zac has. He has an Impello vest which is designed to pull the wearer in a particular direction. The vest even comes with a warning label that says WARNING not to be used to remove teachers from classrooms. This jacket is how Zac knows he has a mission because he gets pulled to GIB head quarters. he has other gadgets too like the Spy Phone and the Exo Skeleton armoured suit.

Exo Skeleton armoured suit.
Image from "Shockwave", page 24.

All the books are must-reads for boys aged 6 and up.

I give these books 10 out of 10!!!!!!!!!

I am linking with Kids' Picks at 5 Minutes for Books.

Before I go I want to share with you my favorite song at the moment, the official theme of the South African World Cup 2010. Here are the lyrics to the song which is going to be used throughout the entire campaign. It is the soundtrack for all television commercials as well.

Give me freedom, give me fire, give me reason, take me higher

See the champions, take the field now, you define us, make us feel proud
In the streets are, exaliftin , as we lose our inhabition,
Celebration its around us, every nation, all around us

Singin forever young, singin songs underneath that sun
Lets rejoice in the beautiful game.
And together at the end of the day.

When I get older I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom Just like a wavin' flag
And then it goes back
And then it goes back
And then it goes back
When I get older I will be stronger
They'll call me freedom
Just like a wavin' flag
And then it goes back.

Now I am off to read a new book, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Have a great day
Big Al :)
